Email Newsletters
The North End Boat Club uses weekly (and sometimes more often as needed) emails to membership to share information on upcoming events, deadlines, and reminders. All members are automatically subscribed to receive these emails. You can opt out, but you will likely miss out on receiving key information from the club that you need to know.
Emails are delivered via an email delivery service and sometimes these emails can be put into a Spam or Junk folder, instead of directly in your Inbox. If you don’t see emails from the club on a weekly basis, this could be happening to you. We are able to monitor our delivery rates, and they are quite good (none bounce, or are rejected). But for some, they do get incorrectly flagged as potential spam. Comcast, Gmail (Google) and Microsoft are some of the most aggressive email services that filter emails, often incorrectly.
If emails are sent to a work email account, some companies are also very aggressive at not letting non work-related content through when it originates from an email service, and they may filter it out as well. Unfortunately there is no way to solve this, unless you have enough pull in your company to whitelist the email address so they are delivered. In this case, your best option is to add a personal email (or a second email) so you can receive the updates.
Additionally, the built in mail applications on mobile phones may filter messages using “features” such as Categories, Prioritized Inbox, Focused Inbox, Primary Inbox, etc. All of these can hide our messages, making them difficult to locate. You can turn these features off or customize them to your liking. Solving this on a computer browser, vs only on your smartphone, may make it a bit easier, as you can see all of the folders and filtering options a little easier. More information on how to locate emails is below.
So if you are reading this and thinking, “Hmm, I haven’t seen any emails from the boat club, I wonder if this is my situation,” these next steps may help you locate them.
If you do find them, in a Spam or Junk folder, the best way to improve emails making it directly into your Inbox is to engage and interact with them. Opening them weekly, and even responding to them by replying to the message. These activities inform email providers like Microsoft, Comcast and Gmail that you are interested in the content, willing to engage with the sender, and don’t consider it spam or an intrusion. Even if there are in your Inbox, a reply once in a while ensures future delivery continues without an issue.
Here are some steps you can take to locate emails:
- As mentioned above, it’s recommended to try to solve this on a computer browser vs a mobile phone, as you can more easily see the entire list of folders available in your account.
- Email services may filter these emails to folders such as Spam, Junk, or even some called Newletters or Promotions. Look for these folders in your email account folder list. If on your phone, you may need to navigate backward to see folders available aside from your main Inbox.
- Try searching for the email address newsletter@neboatclub.org and see if you can find anything. But also MANUALLY check the Junk and/or Spam folders. Don’t rely on the Search functions, as searching functions often exclude some or all of these folders, so you still may not locate them via search.
- If you find them in a Spam or Junk folder, and you have an option to mark them as “Not Spam,” definitely do that. It should update your system to allow delivery and move the message to your Inbox.
- If they don’t move to your Inbox automatically, or if you don’t have an option to mark them as Not Spam, just manually move them to the Inbox yourself.
- Once they are in your Inbox, directly reply to a few of the emails. We are talking about replying to the emails from “North End Boat Club” as the sender. Replying to the messages signals willing interest and engagement, and helps trains the email services that you want to interact with the club and receive the emails. This should help with delivery.
After reading this over, see what you can find and if you still can’t locate the emails, send an email to newsletter@neboatclub.org (the account the emails come from) letting us know. We will then see if we can help you more.
Happy Hunting.
