The Heart of the Club: Community, Tradition, and Membership

For generations, the North End Boat Club has been deeply rooted in charitable contributions, supporting community initiatives, youth athletics, club activities, fundraisers, and various events. This is a club built by its members, for its members.

Since its founding in 1895 with a small group of men, the club has grown to include over 500 members today. The evolution of the club is reflected in its history: from dories, Amesbury skiffs, steam launches, and naphtha engines to today’s sleek fiberglass boats of all shapes and sizes. While the orchestra stage, player piano, bowling alleys, and carnivals have given way to widescreen TVs, digital signage, and a modern jukebox, one thing remains unchanged—our members’ unwavering commitment to community involvement and the club’s core missions: yachting and athletics.

Membership is by sponsorship from current members in good standing, and candidates must reside in Newburyport or one of its neighboring cities or towns at the time of application and acceptance. Members are expected to actively participate and volunteer to support the club’s activities and operations.

If you’re interested in joining, stop by the club during business hours to request an application. Detailed instructions, including fee information, are included in the application packet.
